Curated by Aria Corinne Gannon, Rios’ newly completed assemblage works on canvas offer a compelling exploration into sequential hermaphroditism and various other biological anomalies found in nature, which are often overlooked or misunderstood.

Through her in-depth queries about Parthenogenesis, gynandromorphism, hermaphroditism, cellular signaling, phallic morphology and the ability of certain organisms to reproduce without fertilization, Rios investigates fluidity, adaptability, and the complexities of identity.

“I invite viewers to ponder the natural world's ability to present a spectrum of miracles that challenge our preconceived notions,” shares Rios, adding,” I encourage us to seek deeper understanding, and prompt reflection on the interconnectedness of all living things.”

Hailing from Shreveport, Louisiana, Rios established her studio practice as an artist-in-residence at the Goldmark Cultural Center in 2018. The 24 artworks in this series will travel for exhibition during the Miami Art Fair festivities in December of 2024.
